Priscila Rodriguez Bowdoin

             Dear Ms.Borre,

Strict.Strict is the word to define the community I live in. The community is a place where no one wishes to live or be at. It is no place to have a beautiful/fun life…

First,in our community there in no freedom at all. You cant make your own life decisions in the community. In the book The Giver it states,”There is no war, fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community.” Here, there are chiefs who make your own life choices. Also in the passage it sates, “If everything’s the same, then there aren’t any choices! I want to wake up in the morning and decide things!” Jonas replied to The Giver. This is another quote from the book of how there aren’t any choices in the community I live in.

In the other hand, living in this community also eliminates jobs. For example,if you would ever want to be a doctor or a nurse, you wouldn’t get to be one because there isnt any pain in this ‘perfect world’ there isnt any hospitals for pain…In the text,it explains “For me there was not the element of suspense that there is your ceremony. Because I was already fairly certain of what my assignment was to be.” Father explained to Jonas. In the quotes it is explaining how Father felt before his ceremony of Twelve.
